Target Information
Zinc finger protein SNAI1 (SNAIL) is a zinc finger transcriptional repressor that downregulates ectodermal gene expression within the mesoderm and functions in mesoderm and neural crest formation.
SNAI1 acts as a key factor in tumor invasion through E-cadherin down-regulation and induction of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT).
In human breast cancer, expression of SNAI1 and/or homologous SNAI2 (Slug) correlates with E-cadherin repression, metastasis, recurrence, and poor prognosis.
Snail 1 protein presence in stroma may serve as a potential prognostic marker for colon tumors.
