Target Information
SPHK1, along with SPHK2, catalyzes the phosphorylation of sphingosine to produce sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), a key signaling molecule. S1P acts through G-protein coupled receptors to regulate cellular processes such as differentiation, calcium mobilization, and apoptosis. Inhibitors of SPHKs are considered potential therapeutics for cancer treatment. S1P also interacts with EDG family G protein-coupled receptors (S1P receptors).
