Target Information
Trypsin is a 24 kDa serine protease produced in the pancreas as the inactive precursor trypsinogen. The active enzyme functions in the gastrointestinal tract, cleaving proteins at lysine and arginine residues to generate peptides. It also activates chymotrypsinogen to chymotrypsin. Elevated levels of immunoreactive trypsin in blood can indicate pancreatic dysfunction and are used in screening for cystic fibrosis.
