Target Information
Catenins are proteins that connect cadherin/beta-catenin cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton. Although originally discovered in testis, alphaT-catenin (CTNNA3) is expressed in other tissues, with the highest levels observed in the heart. Immunohistochemical analysis shows human alphaT-catenin localized at intercalated discs of cardiomyocytes and in peritubular myoid cells of the testis. It has been shown that alphaT-catenin can restore cell-cell adhesion in colon cancer cells lacking alpha-catenins, indicating its role in specific cell-cell contact formation in muscle cells. The protein has a predicted size of approximately 100 kDa and shows 57% amino acid identity with other alpha-catenins. In transfected cells, alphaT-catenin interacts with alpha-catenin as demonstrated by coimmunoprecipitation. The 892_24D2S antibody against alphaT-catenin does not cross-react with alphaE-catenin or alphaN-catenin in western blot analysis.
