MKK6 (MEK6, MAP2K6) belongs to the dual specificity protein kinase family and functions as a mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase kinase.
MAP kinases (ERKs) integrate multiple biochemical signals and phosphorylate p38 MAP kinase in response to inflammatory cytokines or environmental stress.
This protein is crucial in p38 MAP kinase-mediated signal transduction, participating in stress-induced cell cycle arrest, transcription activation, and apoptosis.

Tissue Specificity:

• Isoform 2: Expressed only in skeletal muscle
• Isoform 1: Found in skeletal muscle, heart, and to a lesser extent in liver or pancreas
