Target Information
NEK9, a NEK-type protein kinase, regulates chromosome alignment and segregation during mitosis. It contains:
- An N-terminal NIMA-like catalytic domain
- A central RCC1-like domain (guanine nucleotide exchange factor for GTPase Ran)
- A C-terminal coiled-coil domain
NEK9 is phosphorylated by active p34(Cdc2), capable of autophosphorylation and oligomerization, and interacts with Nek6, RCC1, and Bicd2. Expression is observed in normal human brain and various tissue libraries including bone, lymph, thymus, and cancerous tissues (cervix, eye, lymph, placenta).
