Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and are involved in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with a higher protein-to-rRNA ratio compared to prokaryotic ribosomes. Unlike prokaryotic ribosomes, mammalian mitoribosomes lack a 5S rRNA. The DAP3 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein that also participates in apoptotic pathways initiated by TNF-α, Fas ligand, and IFN-γ. This protein may bind ATP/GTP and interact with mitoribosomal protein S27. Alternative splice variants exist but encode the same protein. Pseudogenes are located on chromosomes 1q and 2q.
