Target Information
UMP-CMP kinase 2 (CMPK2) is the first nucleoside monophosphate kinase identified in human mitochondria. It functions in the salvage pathway of nucleotide synthesis and may play a role in the terminal differentiation of monocytic cells. CMPK2 contains two domains:
- N-terminal domain: Function unknown
- C-terminal domain: Kinase function
CMPK2 is a bifunctional protein potentially involved in dUTP and dCTP synthesis, responsible for phosphorylation of dCMP and dUMP in mitochondria. It is actively involved in macrophage activation and the inflammatory response.
