Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of two complexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.

• The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of 7 alpha subunits and two rings of 7 beta subunits).
• The 19S regulator includes a base (6 ATPase subunits and 2 non-ATPase subunits) and a lid (up to 10 non-ATPase subunits).
  Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and are responsible for ATP/ubiquitin-dependent peptide cleavage in a non-lysosomal pathway.
  A modified form, the immunoproteasome, processes class I MHC peptides and contains an alternate 11S regulator (PA28) instead of the 19S regulator.
  This gene encodes the gamma subunit of the 11S regulator, forming a homohexameric ring. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
