Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The HARS2 gene encodes a class II aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase involved in histidyl-transfer RNA synthesis and regulation of protein biosynthesis. It is located head-to-head with the HARS gene on chromosome 5, likely sharing a bidirectional promoter. Mutations in this gene are linked to Perrault syndrome, characterized by ovarian dysgenesis and sensorineural hearing loss. Multiple transcript variants are produced through alternative splicing.
