Target Information
The KV gene family encodes more than 30 genes comprising the subunits of K⁺ channels, which differ in gating, permeation, subcellular distribution, and expression patterns. Functional KV channels assemble as tetramers of pore-forming α-subunits (KV1, KV2, KV3, KV4) and accessory β-subunits that modulate gating. Differences in trafficking and expression patterns of KV1 subunits (KV1.1, KV1.2, KV1.4) in rat and human brain suggest tight regulation in neuronal channel assembly.
