Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 is a member of the type II keratin family located on chromosome 12. Type I and type II keratins form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 8 typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form filaments in simple single-layered epithelial cells. It contributes to cellular structural integrity, signal transduction, and differentiation. Mutations in this gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
