S100A9 (MRP-14)는 2개의 EF-hand 칼슘 결합 모티프를 포함하는 S100 단백질 패밀리의 구성원입니다. S100 단백질은 다양한 세포의 세포질 및/또는 핵에 존재하며, 세포 주기 진행과 분화 등 여러 세포 과정의 조절에 관여합니다. S100 유전자는 염색체 1q21에 클러스터 형태로 존재하는 최소 13개의 멤버를 포함합니다. S100A9 단백질은 casein kinase 억제에 관여할 수 있으며, 이 단백질의 발현 이상은 낭포성 섬유증(cystic fibrosis)과 관련이 있습니다.
