Target Information
The BRD2 gene encodes a transcriptional regulator of the BET (bromodomain and extra-terminal domain) family. This protein associates with transcription complexes and acetylated chromatin during mitosis, selectively binding to acetylated lysine-12 of histone H4 via its two bromodomains.
Located in the MHC class II region on chromosome 6p21.3, BRD2 is not directly involved in immune response but has been implicated in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, though some remain incompletely characterized.
