This antibody detects endogenous levels of total B4GALT2.
Target Information
B4GALT2 is a type II membrane-bound glycoprotein that specifically transfers galactose in a β1,4 linkage to acceptor sugars such as GlcNAc, Glc, and Xyl. Each β4GalT enzyme has a distinct role in the biosynthesis of glycoconjugates and saccharide structures.
These proteins are localized to the Golgi apparatus via an N-terminal hydrophobic signal sequence that acts as a transmembrane anchor.
Based on sequence similarity, β4GalTs are classified into four groups:
- β4GalT1 and β4GalT2
- β4GalT3 and β4GalT4
- β4GalT5 and β4GalT6
- β4GalT7
B4GALT2 synthesizes N-acetyllactosamine in glycolipids and glycoproteins. Its substrate specificity is influenced by α-lactalbumin but it is not expressed in lactating mammary tissue.
