Target Information

Adrenergic receptors (ARs) belong to the 7-transmembrane domain G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily that bind endogenous catecholamines epinephrine and norepinephrine.
There are nine receptor subtypes identified:

• Alpha-1 ARs: 1A/D, 1B, 1C
• Alpha-2 ARs: 2A, 2B, 2C
• Beta ARs: 1, 2, 3

ARs are involved in disease states such as hypertension, cardiac dysfunction, diabetes, glaucoma, depression, and impotence.
Alpha-1A adrenergic receptor subtypes regulate blood pressure through vascular tone and cardiac output modulation.
They also influence uterine contraction, hepatic glucose metabolism, HSP70 expression, proto-oncogene expression, and mitogenesis.
Norepinephrine activation of alpha-1 AR can increase nitric oxide synthase (NOS) in the hypothalamus, potentially suppressing luteinizing hormone (LH) and sex hormone release.
