Target Information
The SQSTM1 gene encodes a multifunctional protein that binds ubiquitin and regulates activation of the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway.
This protein acts as a scaffolding/adaptor molecule with TNF receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) to mediate NF-κB activation in response to upstream signals.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding identical or distinct isoforms.
Mutations in this gene are associated with sporadic and familial Paget disease of bone.
