Target Information
EYA2 functions both as a protein phosphatase and as a transcriptional coactivator for SIX1, and likely also for SIX2, SIX4, and SIX5. It dephosphorylates Tyr-142 of histone H2AX (H2AXY142ph), promoting efficient DNA repair through recruitment of MDC1-containing complexes. Tyr-142 phosphorylation acts as a key marker distinguishing apoptotic from repair responses to genotoxic stress. EYA2 also plays roles in transcription regulation during organogenesis and hypaxial muscle development in cooperation with SIX1 and DACH2, functionally redundant with EYA1.
