Product Specific Information

  • Specificity: Neutralizes human interferon beta. For optimal neutralization of the anti-viral effect of human interferon beta, it is recommended to use sheep polyclonal antibody to human interferon beta (Product #314001).
  • Activity: Interferon was titrated using the cytopathic effect inhibition assay, where 1 unit/mL of interferon produced a 50% endpoint. One neutralization unit equals the amount of serum required to neutralize one unit of human IFN beta to a 50% endpoint.
  • Purity: >95%
  • Endotoxin Level: <1 EU/µg
  • Storage: Store at -20°C for short-term (less than 6 months). For long-term storage, aliquot and store at -70°C or below to maintain full activity, avoiding freeze/thaw cycles.

Target Information

Type I Interferons (IFN-α/β) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by Natural IFN-producing cells (IPCs) as part of the host immune response. IFNs can also inhibit tumor development. IFN-beta binding activates tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2, leading to phosphorylation of STAT transcription factors and expression of immune response genes. Members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family also stimulate IFN-beta production. Clinically, IFN-beta is used for treating tumors, infections, and multiple sclerosis.
