Anti-Probable C->U-editing enzyme APOBEC-2
The gene APOBEC2 (apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme catalytic polypeptide like 2) encodes a member of the APOBEC family of proteins that are mostly DNA and RNA mutators. They are found to be produced in vertebrates and are involved in the deamination of cytidine to uridine, thereby introducing mutations in DNA and RNA. The function of APOBEC2 is yet to be characterized. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 6p21 and contains three exons. The encoded protein contains one deaminase domain and is mainly expressed in the skeletal muscle and heart.
