STARD9 (steroidgenic acute regulatory protein-related lipid transfer (START) domain containing 9) belongs to the kinesin-3 family of proteins. It has three putative isoforms, with the largest composed of 4,614 amino acids and a predicted molecular weight of 506.7kDa. It has a START domain at its C-terminal, and also contains PX domain. It also shares the conserved motor and FHA domains with the other family members. The loop 12 of this protein contains a unique 26-amino acid insert. It is widely expressed in human organs such as in, brains, heart and skin. This gene is localized to human chromosome 15q15, and has a 9483bp coding sequence.
