Lipin 1 (LPIN1) gene with 19 exons is mapped to human chromosome 2p25.1. The encoded protein contains 890 amino acids and is mainly expressed in skeletal muscles and adipose tissue. In humans and mice, LPIN1 exists in three isoforms, namely lipin-1α, β, andγ. LPIN1 belongs to the family of phosphatidic acid (PA) phosphohydrolases.
