Gene Information
TMPO (thymopoietin) gene is mapped to human chromosome 12q22. Alternate splicing of the mRNA results in isoforms α (75kDa), β (51kDa), and γ (39kDa), which are related nuclear proteins. The gene consists of eight exons spanning approximately 35 kb. Exon 4 is spliced into α mRNA, encoding a basic nuclear localization motif. Exon 8 encodes a hydrophobic membrane-spanning domain that targets β and γ isoforms to the nuclear membrane.
