VAPA (vesicle associated membrane protein associated protein A) gene is localized to human chromosome 18p11. The encoded protein, also known as VAP33, exhibits broad tissue expression. It is an integral membrane protein composed of coiled-coil domains. Originally isolated from Aplysia as a VAMP/synaptobrevin interacting partner, it co-localizes with occludin at tight junctions in cells and has a molecular weight of approximately 33 kDa.
