It is mainly expressed in the steroidogenic glands (ovary, testis, adrenal cortex and placenta). EG-VEGF is a small, secreted peptide and works as a tissue-specific pro-angiogenic mitogen and chemotactic agent. The gene is mapped to human chromosome 1p13.
