Interleukin-1 (IL-1), originally known as Lymphocyte Activating Factor (LAF), activates T cells and lymphocytes, which subsequently proliferate and secrete Interleukin-2 (IL-2). The proliferative activity of human IL-1α is tested in culture using the murine cell line D10S.
