Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor providing a secondary activation signal via binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. It prevents T cells from entering an anergic state or undergoing premature apoptotic death. In murine lymphoid organs and blood, all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells express CD28. Expression levels vary depending on cell maturity. CD28 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
