Target Information

Potassium channels are widely expressed proteins with key roles in both excitable and non-excitable cells. The large conductance, calcium-activated potassium channel (Maxi K⁺) is activated by intracellular calcium increases and membrane depolarization. Its structure includes a voltage sensor and calcium-binding domain. In vascular smooth muscle, a β-subunit associates with the α-subunit (1:1 stoichiometry) to reduce calcium concentration required for pore opening by 5–10 fold.
