Target Information
The RNF111 gene encodes a nuclear RING-domain containing E3 ubiquitin ligase. It interacts with the TGF-beta/NODAL signaling pathway by promoting ubiquitination and proteosomal degradation of negative regulators such as SMAD proteins, thereby enhancing TGF-beta target gene transcription. As a modulator of the nodal signaling cascade, RNF111 plays a critical role in mesoderm induction during embryonic development. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
