In eukaryotes, phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of proteins on serine and threonine residues regulate diverse cellular functions such as division, homeostasis, and apoptosis. The PP2A family includes PP2A alpha and PP2A beta, while PPX (PP4) is a putative member of a novel PP family.
