Target Information
This gene encodes a protein with three enzymatic activities:
- 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase
- 5,10-methenyltetrahydrofolate cyclohydrolase
- 10-formyltetrahydrofolate synthetase
These enzymes catalyze sequential reactions in the interconversion of one-carbon derivatives of tetrahydrofolate, which are substrates for methionine, thymidylate, and de novo purine synthesis. The trifunctional activities are conferred by two domains:
- Aminoterminal domain: dehydrogenase and cyclohydrolase activities
- Larger synthetase domain: synthetase activity
