Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during the maturation of the tight junction complex rather than serving as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, while expressed at low levels in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature, a common site of breast cancer metastasis. Blocking its lung-homing domain or inhibiting metadherin expression has been reported to suppress metastasis.
