Target Information
The HMG-box protein-1 (HBP1) is a member of the HMG family of transcription factors, characterized by the conserved high mobility group (HMG) 1 box motif that mediates DNA binding.
HBP1 interacts with tumor suppressor proteins Rb and p130 to initiate cell cycle arrest, which is essential for terminal cell differentiation.
During muscle cell differentiation, HBP1 associates with MyoD proteins, modulating the expression of tissue-specific genes.
Decreased HBP1 activity and activation of MyoD-induced transcription are required for terminal differentiation progression.
