Target Information
TAS2R41 is a receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and belongs to the G-protein receptor superfamily. It is expressed mainly in taste receptor cells of the tongue and the palate epithelia. Structurally, TAS2R41 encodes a seven transmembrane receptor protein and is clustered with eight other taste receptor genes on chromosome 7.
Chloramphenicol acts as an agonist for TAS2R41. The receptor may be involved in sensing the chemical composition of gastrointestinal content and can stimulate alpha gustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation, and lead to TRPM5 gating. TAS2R41 is expressed in gustducin-positive taste receptor cells, which can discriminate among bitter stimuli.
