Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromatin. Each nucleosome consists of an octamer of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) with approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around it. The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes, contributing to chromatin compaction. Histone H2B also exhibits antimicrobial activity. The HIST1H2BC gene encodes a replication-dependent histone variant lacking a polyA tail, instead containing a palindromic termination element, and is located within the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6.
