Target Information
AKR1C3 is a member of the aldo/keto reductase superfamily, consisting of more than 40 known enzymes and proteins. These enzymes catalyze the conversion of aldehydes and ketones to their corresponding alcohols using NADH and/or NADPH as cofactors.
AKR1C3 catalyzes the reduction of prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), PGH2, and phenanthrenequinone (PQ), as well as the oxidation of 9-alpha,11-beta-PGF2 to PGD2. It may play roles in allergic disease pathogenesis such as asthma and in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation.
This gene shares high sequence identity with three other gene members and is clustered with them at chromosome 10p15–p14.
