Product Specific Information

This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems. The expression systems are developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select the best candidates for production.

Advantages of recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies:

  • Better specificity and sensitivity
  • Lot-to-lot consistency
  • Animal origin-free formulations
  • Broader immunoreactivity due to the larger rabbit immune repertoire

This antibody has specificity for Human CD44.

Target Information

CD44 is a 100 kDa type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein widely expressed on human leukocytes, white matter of the brain, and some epithelial cells of the intestine and breast. Several isoforms exist, including the predominant CD44H isoform detected in many normal tissues.

Functions and roles:

  • Receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA)
  • Involved in cell-cell interactions, adhesion, and migration
  • Participates in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, and homing
  • Expression may be up-regulated in some carcinomas, potentially related to metastatic potential

CD44 is expressed by hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, epithelial tissues, and filopodia in cultured keratinocytes. Bone marrow myeloid cells and memory T cells express CD44 at high levels, and peripheral B and T cells can upregulate CD44 in response to stimulation.

Transcripts for the CD44 gene undergo complex alternative splicing, resulting in many functionally distinct isoforms. This splicing contributes to the structural and functional diversity of the CD44 protein.

Associated diseases:
Superficial keratitis, lichen sclerosus, and potentially tumor metastasis formation.
