Target Information
The FASTKD3 gene encodes a member of the Fas-activated serine/threonine kinase domain (FASTKD) protein family. These proteins share:
- An N-terminal mitochondrial targeting domain
- Multiple C-terminal FAST domains
- A putative RNA-binding RAP domain
Members of this family are ubiquitously expressed, most abundant in mitochondria-rich tissues such as heart, skeletal muscle, and brown adipose tissue. Some may play roles in apoptosis and interact with mitochondrial respiratory and translation networks.
A pseudogene is present on chromosome 5, and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
