This antibody detects endogenous levels of total SEPN1 protein.

Target Information

SEPN1 is a selenoprotein containing a selenocysteine (Sec) residue at its active site. Mutations in the SEPN1 gene cause classical multiminicore disease and congenital muscular dystrophy with spinal rigidity and restrictive respiratory syndrome.
The selenocysteine is encoded by the UGA codon, which normally signals translation termination. The 3′ UTR of selenoprotein genes contains a stem-loop structure called the SECIS element, necessary for recognizing UGA as a Sec codon rather than a stop signal.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.
