COL17A1은 type XVII collagen의 알파 사슬로, 대부분의 콜라겐과 달리 막관통 단백질입니다. 이는 표피-진피 기저막 영역의 hemidesmosome 복합체의 구조적 구성요소로서, 각질세포가 기저막에 부착되도록 돕습니다. COL17A1은 FACIT collagen family(fibril-associated collagens with interrupted helices)에 속하며, type I collagen을 포함하는 조직에 위치하여 세포외기질의 구조적 완전성을 유지하는 역할을 합니다.
COL17A1 기능 이상은 epithelial recurrent erosion dystrophy 및 epidermolysis bullosa와 같은 질환과 관련이 있습니다.
