Target Information
Fibrillin 1 is an extracellular acidic protein with a high cysteine content and an extended thread-like shape, composed of various extracellular modules. It includes 47 epidermal growth factor-like (EGF-like) repeats, 43 of which have calcium-binding consensus sequences. Additional modules such as 8-cysteine motifs, hybrid motifs, and unique domains are distributed throughout the molecule. Fibrillin 1 features a proline-rich region near the N-terminus, replaced by a glycine-rich region in Fibrillin 2. Fibrillins are integral components of connective tissue fibrils.
