Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a key component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in spindle checkpoint function may lead to genetic instability and predispose cells to malignant transformation.
Human cells contain two related checkpoint kinases, hBUBR1 and hBUB1, both monitoring mitotic kinetochore-microtubule interactions. hBUBR1 is essential for normal mitotic progression, preventing premature anaphase entry.
BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1 (Breast Cancer-Specific Gene 1), which may accelerate breast cancer progression by compromising mitotic checkpoint control.
