Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids. The HARS gene encodes a cytoplasmic enzyme belonging to the class II family of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, responsible for histidyl-tRNA synthesis, essential for histidine incorporation into proteins. It is located in a head-to-head orientation with HARSL on chromosome 5, sharing a bidirectional promoter. The gene product is a frequent target of autoantibodies in polymyositis/dermatomyositis.
