Target Information
Apolipoproteins are protein components of plasma lipoproteins. The apolipoprotein C gene family encodes four homologous proteins (apoC-I to -IV) that modulate the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
- ApoC-I: Gene located on chromosome 19q13.2, expressed in the liver, activated during monocyte-to-macrophage differentiation.
- ApoC-II: Gene located on chromosome 19q13.2, encodes a 79 amino acid protein, cofactor for lipoprotein lipase activation.
- ApoC-III: Gene located on chromosome 11q23, inhibits lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase, delaying triglyceride catabolism.
- ApoC-IV: Gene located on chromosome 19q13.2, encodes a 127 amino acid protein, primarily expressed in the liver.
