Target Information

ICAM-1 (CD54) is an 85–110 kDa single-chain type I integral membrane glycoprotein composed of an extracellular domain with five immunoglobulin superfamily repeats, a transmembrane region, and a cytoplasmic domain.
It has seven potential N-linked glycosylation sites and shares significant amino acid sequence homology with ICAM-2 (CD102) and ICAM-3 (CD50).
ICAM-1 binds integrins such as CD11a/CD18 (LFA-1) and CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1), and also serves as a receptor for Rhinovirus.
It is expressed by activated endothelial cells and detected on epithelial cells, fibroblasts, chondrocytes, B and T lymphocytes (low levels), monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and neutrophils. Expression increases during inflammation and is also observed in some carcinoma and melanoma cells.
Soluble ICAM-1 can be found in plasma and is elevated in various inflammatory syndromes.
