Target Information
SMARCA2 encodes a protein that is part of the SWI/SNF family, sharing high similarity with the Drosophila brahma protein. These proteins possess helicase and ATPase activities and regulate gene transcription by modifying chromatin structure. The encoded protein is a component of the ATP-dependent SNF/SWI chromatin remodeling complex, essential for transcriptional activation of genes typically repressed by chromatin. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified, and the gene contains a trinucleotide repeat (CAG) length polymorphism.
