Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. The core structure consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits: two rings composed of seven alpha subunits and two rings composed of seven beta subunits. Proteasomes are distributed throughout eukaryotic cells at high concentration and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
A modified form, the immunoproteasome, is essential for processing class I MHC peptides.
This gene encodes a member of the peptidase T1A family, representing a 20S core alpha subunit.
