Target Information
The PDX1 gene encodes a transcriptional activator involved in the regulation of insulin, somatostatin, glucokinase, islet amyloid polypeptide, and glucose transporter type 2. This nuclear protein plays a critical role in early pancreatic development and glucose-dependent insulin gene expression. Mutations in this gene can cause pancreatic agenesis, leading to early-onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) and maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 4 (MODY4).
