Target Information
Profilin is an ubiquitous small (12–15 kDa) phosphoinositides and poly-L-proline binding protein involved in signal transduction and actin filament dynamics.
There are two mammalian profilins with similar biochemical properties but distinct expression patterns:
- Profilin I: Highly expressed in most tissues except skeletal muscle.
- Profilin II: Predominantly expressed in brain, with lower levels in skeletal muscle, uterus, and kidney.
Profilin is mainly cytosolic and concentrated in dynamic membrane regions such as the leading edge and ruffling membranes.
