CDK3/CyclinE1은 cyclin-dependent protein kinase 계열에 속하며, E2F 전사 인자군을 활성화하여 S기 진입을 촉진합니다. 또한 cyclin C와 결합하여 retinoblastoma 1 단백질을 인산화시켜 G0 단계에서의 탈출을 촉진합니다.
CDK3 유전자는 17q22-qter 염색체 위치에 존재하며, BRCA1 유전자보다 원위부에 위치합니다. 여러 Mus musculus 실험용 계통에서 CDK3 유전자의 단일 점 돌연변이가 보고되었습니다.
